Recently I got the opportunity to interview the one and only Florian London and find out what makes them tick as a brand...
First up, where did the name ‘Florian London' come from?
‘Florian was derived from Flowering - the process of observing as our design inspirations materialises into an actual product. We are based in London and majority of our design are inspired by this historical city - hence the London in our name.’
What inspired you to set up the London handbag label? Was it a matter of you not being able to find what you wanted from other brands?
‘Finding a bag on the market that combined practicality and functionality with current on-trend design features was very hard to find on the market. We wanted to create handbag designs not only inspired by British heritage and lifestyle, but practical and functional with strong design features. We also chose vibrant colour palettes to add the fun element to our designs’
I adore the compact style of your designs - especially the clutches - and the colour palette. For AW14 - how did your colour palette and designs evolve?
‘Our colour palette this AW14 is mainly inspired by British Weather during autumn - a stroll in Regents Park in September inspired majority of our colour palette. The shedding of leaves from trees, the leaves are all different colours - some change to red, others to yellow and some are purply-brown - colours that captured our heart and inspired our colour palette.’
Do designers on the catwalk inspire you? Or is it street style? What really gets you when it comes to making a brand new seasonal collection?
‘It’s pretty clear that the phenomenon of street style is here to stay, just one quick pass through Somerset House during London Fashion week and you will witness hoards of style setters. We love seeing how Londoners translate key fashion trends on the street and we draw a lot of inspiration from that. We also admire Anya Hindmarch as a British Accessories Designer.’
If you could have any celebrity rocking your bags or accessories who would it be?
‘We’d love to see Kate Moss rocking a Florian London Bag -not only is she a mother, she is a model, British fashion icon and entrepreneur.’
Who would you see as the face of your brand?
‘We would love Cara Delevinge to be the face of our brand.’
Are you trend-led - or are the clutches made to be worn ANY season?
‘Our designs are very classic and can be worn any season- however we have some pieces that are trend-led.’
Where would you like to see Florian in ten years’ time?
‘We would love to open doors to our own very first flagship store and be well known and recognised as a British brand that offers high quality handbags at an attainable price point.’
