The arrival of Reem Juan’s Spring/Summer’14 collection in my inbox instantly sparked some concern – mainly because I realised it was going to be a difficult season trying not to purchase everything from the line (and then have to work out some long-winded and imaginatively complicated story as to why this may have happened to the fiancé). Inspired by the story of Madame Butterfly in which an American lieutenant arrives in Japan and marries a Geisha (Madame Butterfly) only to abandon her and their child, before then returning with his American bride and attempting to take the child from her.
Juan’s collection takes this dramatic and romantic, Japanese story and inspiration and effortlessly threads it through the entirety of her collection. Soft draping sleeves hang cleanly against chic kimono shapes and floral embroidery, uniting to bring to life the soft, decadent elegance that Reem is so very well known for. This season's key trends are also threaded throughout, perfectly satisfying your lust for this season's ice cream, candy pastel shades, decadent sweet lace and chic sheer inserts - all in all - a luxury, glorious collection all round.
